The New Nutrition

Last time, we looked at combating free radicals through Cellular Nutrition. It is “preventative medicine” at its best!

Diet alone cannot provide your body with the level of nutrients it requires to combat degenerative disease. In this article we are going to take a look at why food no longer provides our body with what it needs.

The New Nutrition

Until the 1940’s, farmers returned essential nutrients to the soil by mulching, manuring & crop rotation. These methods have worked successfully to maintain soil quality since agriculture began. But human greed & arrogance convinced commercial interests that they could use man-made technology to do better than Nature, & make bigger profits. So began the degradation of the food supply.

Experiments had shown that many plants will grow on a mixture of just three minerals, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), & potassium (K).

By the 60’s, in order to compete in the food market, farms had become totally dependent on NPK fertilisers & products in order to make a living.



Mixtures of NPK provide three of the main minerals essential for plant health. They grow fine looking crops with abundant yields. The human body requires 50 to 60 minerals every single day. This may be great to use NPK for growing beautiful looking vegetables, but you are NOT a vegetable! Humans need more than nitrogen, phosphorus & potassium.

As each succeeding crop grown on NPK products has depleted the soil of other essential minerals & these minerals are no longer replaced, most produce & food animals have become mineral deficient. That also makes you deficient! Your body needs 50-60 minerals but your body cannot make them & must get them from your food.


Food Nutrient Value

In 1948, a bowl of spinach used to contain about 150 milligrams of iron. Today, that same bowl of spinach contains about 2 milligrams!

Canned peas lose 94% of their nutrients; frozen peas 83%; fresh asparagus stored for one week loses about 90% of its vitamin C.

Then there’s meat. Over 90% of pigs & veal calves, 60% of cattle & 95% of all poultry have antibiotics routinely added to their feed. Residues of these drugs are in much of the meat that you eat. This over-use of antibiotics in animal feed has also bred drug-resistant strains of bacteria, which also remains in the meat that you eat.

To gain optimal daily level of Vitamin C (1,300mg) you would need to consume 563 cups of apple juice daily. And then you’d have a big sugar problem! To obtain Vitamin E (450 IU) daily you would need to eat 37 pounds of spinach, or 14 pounds of cabbage to obtain your daily optimal level of Calcium (1,200mg).



Pesticides

With traditional methods of soil enrichment, plants obtain the minerals & other substances required to make natural chemical compounds in their leaves, stems & roots that discourage insects from eating them.

Plants grown in mineral depleted soils – supported by NPK fertilisers – no longer get enough of the nutrients required to produce their insect repellent compounds. They become easy prey to pests. Consequently it became necessary to protect the weakened crops against pests, so developed the new business empire of pesticides to further damage & poison our food.

Currently used toxic pesticides include captan, alachlor, 1,3-dichloropropene, donoseb, ethyl dibromide, lindane, pronamide & trifluralin. These have been singled out because all of them have been cited as probable human carcinogens by the Environmental Protection Agency’s own review process. That is, repeated, controlled experimental studies have shown conclusively that these chemicals cause cancer.
